This week on Zero Dark Nerdy: Physical Media Strikes Back! Why We’re Not Over Vinyl and DVDs…
Father-daughter duo Brian and Jordan discuss mix tapes, record stores, collecting movies and going to concerts! As streaming further cements itself everyday as the dominant medium for consuming content in the 21st century…we see a resurgence of DVD, CD, vinyl and book collecting taking hold in the world of pop culture fans as well.
Why do we collect these things at all? It’s the nostalgia, the memories, the historical importance and more than anything: the integrity of the art. We want to buy and own the media we love most! While streaming movies is great and certainly not going anywhere, we’re just not so sure if it beats our wall of DVDs.
And what role does physical media play in fostering community? How does it speak to experiencing and appreciating art vs taking it for granted? We touch on it here and share some of our favorite records and movies we own too as we simply cannot help ourselves…be sure to check out the FULL unedited episode on Zero Dark Nerdy’s Youtube Channel for more relevant commentary on the physical media debate currently taking up space online as massive companies have it out and attempt pick sides!
